Alex Smith of the Niners says he believes that there’s a much more decisive and amenable way on deciding who the starting qb should be for the team . Best of, two out of three , rock , papers , scissors
That may be what it comes down to for Harbaugh to decide. Alex Smith has a 104.1 QB rating this season. So it’s not as if he wasn’t playing well, because he was. Kaepernick is the future, but the 49ers should do well with him or Smith because their defense is so good.
I think Harbaugh has replaced Smith for good. Kaepernick was his “prize” draft pick, and he’s going with this kid to the end of the season. I like your rankings, Maurice, especially the top 3 guys. However, Flacco has “fallen from grace” as a top 15 QB for me. He’s just too inconsistent, despite the Ravens record.
Nice job, my friend!
Hey, thanks Steven. The one thing that Harbaugh needs to be careful of with Kaepernick is that he doesn’t have a lot of experience. That might cost him in the playoffs. A career 86.1 QB rating for Flacco shows he’s merely average. However, I think Flacco proved last season in the playoffs, that for a stretch of games he can be near elite, just not all the time. So it’s possible he can get hot again when it matters the most. Eli Manning is like that too, as his career QB rating is 82.3, but when the playoffs start he becomes a different player.
Hey Maurice…missed this comment somehow, sorry! I agree with what you are saying about Flacco and Manning, it’s just inconsistency drives coaches and fans nuts!
You never know which QB has shown up to play! I also believe that both NY and Baltimore are overrated teams.
And as far as Kaepernick goes, the more game film that he has, the better other teams will get in defending him. When that happens, then we’ll really see what he’s made of…
Guys , if the wheels on the Niners’ bus suddenly has a flat or literally falls off , or , Kaepernick goes down injured and there are other injuries sustained on the roster . Then people will point to Harbaugh’s decision to go with the rookie .
Consistency has always been what matters most with the elite quarterbacks within the NFL . There’s a reason by the Manning (Eli & Peyton) , Brees , Brady , and Rodgers have been preforming at such a high level over the last five years . Can I get an amen on that , as well as a hallelujah ?
Jeff Garcia’s wife Carmella DeCesare says she’s willing to help Alex Smith with any problem he might now be having. Yes please !
If Carmella could make Jeff feel good about himself as a competitor both on and off the field , then why not ?
Tophatal …………..
It’s a slippery slope to climb for Harbaugh. If Kaepernick starts top struggle he’ll be forced to go back to the man he slighted in Alex Smith, which would weaken his position with the team. It may be wise to go back with Smith as the starter and have Kaepernick ready to take over if he struggles. Smith will know that anything less than great performances will result in him losing his job.
I don’t believe Harbaugh has anything to worry about ! The Niners’ front office led by the Yorks (John & Denise ) and GM Trent Baalke knew they “lucked out” when he accepted the position .
Kaepernick for now ” can do his dance and pump his chest , but as you say , the moment he falters , then it’s back to Alex Smith .
It’s one of those nice problems to have. Two good QB’s, but can either be “the” one to get the 49ers to the Super Bowl?
Well for now it’s good thing , especially given the play of Kaepernick who has legitimately shown that he can play and to my mind has showed greater …. flexibility than Alex Smith .
Great game between ‘bama and Georgia . Roll on the BCS national title game .

Kansas City linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend, police said, before he drove to team headquarters and fatally shot himself as coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli watched.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It began like most other Saturdays for the Kansas City Chiefs during the NFL season, their general manager and coach at work early to prepare for Sunday’s game.
The men got a call to hurry to the parking lot of team headquarters and soon were face to face with linebacker Jovan Belcher.
Belcher already had killed his girlfriend, according to police. Upon finding his bosses, Belcher thanked GM Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel for giving him a chance in the NFL. Then Belcher, 25, turned away and pulled the trigger of the handgun pointed toward his head.
The apparent murder-suicide shocked a franchise that was dealing with controversies made trivial by comparison: eight consecutive losses, numerous injuries, discontent among fans and the prospect Pioli and Crennel could be fired at season’s end.
Authorities did not release a possible motive while piecing together the case, other than to note Belcher and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kasandra M. Perkins, had been arguing frequently.
The two of them left behind a 3-month-old girl. She was being cared for by family.
Belcher reportedly shot Perkins multiple times while his mother watched. A friend of Perkins said Belcher was angry because his girlfriend didn’t return until about 1 a.m. after attending a Trey Songz concert and having drinks with friends.
